Meet Dr. Priya

Dr. Priya

Dr. Priya Joshi, a native of Nova Scotia, has had an ongoing passion for healing throughout her life. Her own experience of using natural therapies for her health inspired her to choose Naturopathic Medicine as her career.

Priya began her journey studying Biology at St. Francis Xavier University in a B.Sc. Honours program. She continued her education at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto, graduating in 2000. While at CCNM, her philosophy of honouring the body's natural healing ability took bloom.  She has been in practice since 2001.

As a well-respected doctor, Priya shares her knowledge, compassion, and warmth with her patients, appealing to their mind, body and spirit. She brings her love of naturopathic medicine and healing to her practice. She inspires, educates, and empowers her patients, encouraging them to be active in their health care, and to listen to their body and their intuition. Priya ensures that her patients are part of the healing process by working with them and motivating them to make positive lifestyle choices. Her truly integrative and holistic approach supports positive lifestyle changes and yields tangible results.  "I am honoured to support people in their journey to optimal health."

Priya has a well-rounded general family practice with a special interest in mind/body medicine, children's healthcare, and women's healthcare (hormonal concerns, infertility, breast health, emotional health).  Priya also has a special interest in the prevention, treatment, and management of Cancer using naturopathic therapies. She continues to further her education in naturopathic therapies, ayurvedic medicine, mind/body medicine, and yoga. She travelled to Belize, Central America, to learn the ancient technique of Mayan Abdominal and Uterine Massage in 2008.

Following the death of her father in 2008, Priya took a year off from her naturopathic practice to heal and give her body and spirit some self-care. She traveled to India for six months where she studied Acupressure, Ayurvedic medicine, and Homeopathy from experienced practitioners. She was invited by Manav Hitkari Sangh, a charitable Homeopathic and Cancer Centre, as a consultant.

Priya is a professional member of the Nova Scotia Association of Naturopathic Doctors, the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), and the Arvigo Techniques of Mayan Abdominal Massage Association.

With the gift of listening comes the gift of healing.

Every Patient Has a Story

My patients are a source of inspiration and hope for me. Below are some words from my patients on how Naturopathic Medicine has helped them in their healing journey. If you would like to share your words, to inspire and motivate others, I welcome your emails.

Meeting with Priya gives a whole new meaning to "personal attention." Not only does she make you feel like you are her only patient, but she gives you the needed time to explain your ailments and concerns, and she listens, not in a rushed manner like most doctors. She looks for the root of the problem, she just doesn't scratch the surface. She is patient and non-judgmental.

Priya is an amazing doctor. What I like about her is she listens to what is going on in your life which helps her determine how she can help you. It is not just a pain here or there, it is a whole body interest. Naturopathic medicine has saved me from using a lot of traditional medicine and given my body the strength to do what it needs to do. We learn with naturopathic medicine how to take care of our bodies and what things we normally think are what we need, in fact harm us. Just remember, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Having utilized the expertise of a naturopath for my children from the beginning of their lives has been a life-enhancing and health promoting experience for us all. My kids occasionally get illnesses that are traditionally treated with antibiotics, but I am proud to say that almost all of them have been treated naturally, allowing the body to heal itself. Ear aches, tonsillitis, and even strep throat have all been managed with Dr. Joshi's advice. Our experience with Dr. Joshi has proven her to be compassionate and thorough, looking at the whole person - and seeking out the source of unwellness, rather than masking the symptoms that indicate an imbalance on some level. We rely on our ND as our primary health care provider.
