Passions

Passion, according to Webster's dictionary is defined as "a strong feeling or emotion; enthusiasm; admiration for a cause or activity."

My life revolves around a number of passions... and they continue to grow. I've been blessed to have so many opportunities and people come into my life who unlock another passion within me.

Most of my passions involve art and nature. I go to nature when the world is too much...often with camera in hand. There is nothing like having a scene present itself to be photographed. I turn to my love of music, dance, theatre, art, and words when my soul needs soothing. It allows me to be present and ground myself. My recent work in pottery gives me an avenue to express myself creatively. My love of theatre led me to be on the organizing committee of the London Fringe Festival, an alternative theatre and arts festival.

How spirituality presents itself in life never ceases to amaze me. It is in a sunrise, the ocean, a baby's laugh, an elder's wise face. Each work of pottery, each photograph, each moment, is something that cannot be duplicated, and the situation will never come again. I see that with each patient, each person is an individual, unique in his/her own way ... and as with a work of art, each person has had such a journey to make it to who they are today.

There are many people in the world who I admire and who continually motivate me by the difference they make in this world. Hearing their stories and listening to their passion is truly inspiring. It has been an honour for me to meet some of these great minds. Among them, the common theme is an inability to stay silent about things they believe in. As Martin Luther King Jr said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
