Naturopathic Therapies
The therapies used by Naturopathic Doctors work with your body’s natural healing force and enhance its ability to heal itself. Please do not self-medicate using these therapies. Consult a licensed Naturopathic Doctor if you wish to try any of the therapies listed.
Herbal Medicine
The use of plants for healing dates back to the beginning of civilization and is the foundation of modern pharmacology. Plants from all over the world are prescribed for their powerful healing effects and nutritional value. Herbs are given as teas, tinctures, and ointments.
Clinical Nutrition
Clinical nutrition is the cornerstone of Naturopathic
Medicine. It examines the relationship between diet and health:
You are what you eat! What we eat and how we digest food has a direct
impact on our health. An Ayurvedic, Chinese Medicine, or Western
approach may be applied when discussing dietary changes and during
analysis of your health needs.

is of no use.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Health, in TCM, means harmony between yin
and yang, the two complementary but opposing qualities that
make up everything in the world. Symptoms are a result of
imbalance between yin & yang, and TCM focuses on restoring
that balance. Acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and dietary changes
are used to stimulate healing and balance yin & yang,
and the flow of qi (energy) in the body.
Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy uses the basic element of life,
water, as a healing tool. Hot and cold water treatments stimulate
healing in specific areas of the body and encourage circulation.
Homeopathy
Developed
in the 1700s, homeopathic medicine has a long tradition of healing.
Homeopathic remedies are made from specific dilutions of minute
amounts of natural sources – plant, vegetable, mineral, or
animal. Each remedy is matched specifically to your symptoms, stimulating
your body’s natural healing forces. It is important for your
Naturopathic
Doctor to know every symptom, in order to select the right remedy for
you.
Homeopathy is based on the principle of “like
cures like” – a remedy that will cause a symptom in
a healthy person, will actually relieve similar symptoms and restore
health in an ill person. For example, a remedy made from Allium
cepa (onion), will cause the symptoms of runny nose and watery
eyes in a healthy person, but will relieve those symptoms in an
ill person.
Lifestyle Counselling
Naturopathic Doctors discuss lifestyle and stress
management with patients, helping them make informed choices to
reach and maintain optimal health. They examine the link between
health and lifestyle, thoughts, emotions, spirituality, and the environment.
Breath work, relaxation techniques, visualizations, and positive
affirmations are often suggested.
